This ethnic enclave of the Malays is
another colourful exotic sight to soak in. Right in
its midst is the Malay Village, a showcase of traditional
business and cultural activities which bring back
sweet memories of old kampong days. Its shops display
a potpourri of items from handicrafts, rugs and fabrics
to furniture and antiques.
Drop by the wet market and indulge in the smells of
cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg. Skirting the market are
shops where you can pick up CDs of both traditional
and modern Malay "keroncong" music for memories
of your holiday in Singapore.
Pop into the modern Joo Chiat Complex and you'll be amazed at the dazzling array of textiles, clothes and jewellery shops which greet you.
Nearest MRT station: Paya Lebar (EW8)
